Day 1 :

Fly from Addis Ababa to Mekele, then drive to Hawzen:

In the morning, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Mekele. Upon arrival, you will be greeted and driven to Hawzen. Along the way, you’ll visit the semi rock-hewn church of Wukro Cherkos, an iconic site for those interested in history, religion, and architecture. Carved from a single piece of rock in the 4th century, this Ethiopian Orthodox church is part of the remarkable Tigray Churches complex and showcases the region’s deep religious heritage. Next, visit Abraha Atsbeha, home to the first church built in Ethiopia, featuring intricate designs and a stunning interior. Finally, you’ll stop at Dugum Sellase. Overnight Stay: Hawzen

Day 2 :

Visit Debre Tsion Mariam and Yohannes Makudi:

Today, embark on a visit to the Debre Tsion Abune Abreham Monastery, carved out of living rock. The monastery’s unique location and craftsmanship will captivate you. Then, head to Yohannes Makudi, one of the first Coptic churches in Ethiopia, which is accessible through a narrow opening between two towering rock walls. Overnight Stay: Hawzen

Day 3 :

Day Trip to Abune Yemata

After breakfast, drive to the base of Geraltha to explore Mariam Korkor, a 6th-century church known for its impressive architecture, including cruciform pillars, arches, and cupolas. The church is adorned with fine 17th-century frescoes and treasures. Despite its unassuming green exterior, the church is one of the largest in the region. The journey involves a challenging one hour hike from the road, offering a rewarding view once you reach the church. For those with energy to spare, this trip can be combined with a visit to the nearby Abune Yemata Goh, creating an unforgettable full-day trek. After your explorations, return to Hawzen. Day 4 :

Drive from Hawzen to Mekele, then fly to Addis Ababa:

drive back to Mekele and catch your flight to Addis Ababa. In the evening, enjoy a folkloric dinner where you can sample traditional Ethiopian foods and watch cultural dances representing various ethnic groups. As always, Ethiopian coffee will be served during the event. Afterward, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back.
