Itinerary
Day 1 :
Arrival in Addis Ababa:
Arrive at Bole International Airport and meet your guide for a transfer to the hotel and check-in. After a short rest, enjoy an afternoon city tour of Addis Ababa, visiting key sites like the National Museum, Holy Trinity Cathedral, Merkato Market, and the Ethnological Museum. Experience the city’s rich culture and history before returning to your hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 2 :
Addis Ababa – Arbaminch (via Dorze Village)
Drive from Addis Ababa to Arbaminch. En route, visit the Dorze village in the Guge Mountains. The Dorze people are renowned for their intricate cotton weaving and unique beehive-shaped huts. Chencha, the largest town in the area, is the source of many traditional Ethiopian garments. Overnight stay in Arbaminch.
Day 3 :
Arbaminch – Jinka (via Lake Chamo, Weyto & Key Afar)
In the morning, enjoy a scenic boat trip on Lake Chamo to witness the famous “Crocodile Market” and hippo pods. Then continue your drive to Jinka, passing through Weyto (market day: Sunday) and Key Afar (market day: Thursday), where you can experience lively local markets. Overnight stay in Jinka.
Day 4 :
Jinka – Mursi Village – Jinka
Travel to the Mursi village to meet the iconic Mursi people, known for their distinctive lip plates worn by women and other traditional adornments. After the visit, return to Jinka and explore the South Omo Museum for deeper insight into the region’s culture. Overnight stay in Jinka.
Day 5 :
Jinka – Turmi (via Dimeka)
Drive to Turmi, home of the Hamer people. If your journey coincides with Monday or Saturday, stop at the Dimeka market to observe the vibrant exchange among the Hamer and Dassanech tribes, noted for their hairstyles, body adornments, and cultural expressions. In the evening, enjoy the traditional Hamer night dance known as Evangadi. Overnight stay in Turmi.
Day 6 :
Excursion to Karo Tribe
Take a day trip from Turmi to visit the Karo people, who reside along the Omo River. As one of the smallest tribes in the region, they are famed for their body painting and elaborate ceremonial decorations.
Day 7 :
Turmi – Arbaminch (via Konso Village)
Return to Arbaminch, stopping to visit the Konso people along the way. The Konso are known for their terraced farming, unique wooden grave markers called Waka, and their distinct social structures. Their villages, architecture, and traditions offer a truly immersive cultural experience. Overnight stay in Arbaminch.
Day 8 :
Arbaminch – Addis Ababa – Departure
Drive back to Addis Ababa. On the way, stop at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Tiya, known for its mysterious stelae. Upon arrival in Addis Ababa, enjoy a farewell dinner at one of the city’s finest traditional restaurants, featuring a variety of Ethiopian dishes and a performance of folkloric music and dance. Later, transfer to the airport for your departure.
